This photograph was taken early in September 2005 at a rest stop off of Interstate 90 in eastern Washington.  We were heading back from a Labor Day weekend camping trip in Idaho (see my photo "Idaho Dam").  Even though leaving the campgrounds and hiking trails for the inside of a car was difficult, it was a brilliant day to drive back to Seattle.  The sun was high above, the deep blue sky was full of wispy clouds, and the winds were twisting up towering dust devils all across the golden and dusty fields.  The agricultural lands of eastern Washington constitute a very active landscape, and the drive along Interstate 90 is an interesting one.
